Gutterballs Weekly Vol. IV Issue 7 Christmas Edition!

O bowling Night! The lanes are brightly shining;
It is the night of the league Christmas party.
Long lay the world in pin and strike pining.
Till we appeared and the Turkey felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the brooklyn voices!
O strike divine, the night when dude was born;
O strike, O Holy strike , O strike divine!
O strike, O Holy strike , O strike divine!

And a Merry Christmas to you!

What a great night. The fun, the tunes, the amazing spread of food, some crazy holiday sweaters and of course the bowling!

Thank you all who came it was another great night of PW Gutterballs league action.
For those of you who missed it I hope whatever it was that kept you from the lanes was worth it.
Let’s take a look at what you missed;

(Check back later, More pictures will be posted as they are sent to the league office)

High Game:

Dude: New ball in hand and not too much booze in the system yet Tony came out hot. Tossing a game 1 high 202. Many would try but all challengers fell short. The closest call was Ess in game three posting a 199, ohhhh sooooo close. Now the question is could he keep the pace?

Ladies: Posting a number early for others to chase was also the game plan for Amanda Yoho wait I mean Williams. Lot of Amanda Yoho’s in the crowd this week. Excellent addition to the party. This begs the question, can one have too many Yoho’s in one room? I don’t think so, but maybe we should ask Brad Williams.

Oh yeah the high score, sorry about that, Amanda’s 184 in game one held up. Stef made a good run at it in game three but her 180 wasn’t enough.

Series Total:

•Dudes: So now with new ball in hand and more booze (White Russians / Wild Turkeys / Miller Lites) in system could Tony maintain the hot start….. NOPE.

Tony posted a 515 two pins short of Mr. Bowl Jon Crain’s 517, Although JC failed to post a score better then 177 his steady roll was the difference.

•Ladies: How about the ladies you ask. Much like the dudes (minus the booze intake) Amanda’s game one wasn’t enough to ward off Stef’s 441. Honorable mention goes out to Michelle’s 436. Was this her coming out party or was it the elf hat with bells?

How do you measure up?:

League wide average’s: Dudes: 160 (down 1) Special Lady Friends: 132 (even)

Most Improved Bowler

When he wasn’t getting busted for smuggling in Miller High Life’s, B-Rad was busting his old average by 4 pins! 150, 147, 155 now that is some good rolling.

But tonight’s BIG winner is Michelle. Her 436 bumped her average an impressive 5 pins!

Biggest Dip:

His Christmas sweater was looking good but his game was not. This week Mikey drops 7 pins.

200 Games:

Tony: 202

Must have been good karma from the wife showing up!-Nice antlers

500 (+) Series:

JC 517
Tony 515

450 (+) Series Ladies:

None- Close but no four-fifty for you

Season Milestones:

JJ first hunter to reach 10 kills! Nice roll’n

Best Shot of the night:

Wild Turkey- on the house! Thanks Willie

Best of the Best:

Sweaters: JC- snowman up his sleeve, Hoepner rocking the turtleneck (that looked uncomfortable), JJ too tight 7-10 club very cool. Jaime’s bells
Accessories: Sarah’s black angle ear rings and updue nice Christmas hair styling.
Food: Tough to beat Pasta Shoppe Pizza great surprise thank you Dohrwardts.
As for home made, there were dips from the Morgan’s and cookies from the Williams but everyone was talking about the grape jelly and chili sauce meat balls from Stef. Yeah we said grape jelly. They were great!

Furthest travel to roll award: Goes to Amanda Lanser/ Yoho in for the holidays from Sacramento California. Awesome addition. Also she rocked a great sweater and tossed an impressive 145 in game one. Not bad for a first timer.

Sorry if I am missing anything. You can add it in the comments section below.

Thanks everyone who made this year’s holiday party a huge success and a lot of fun.

PROGRAMMING NOTE: No “official” bowling for the next TWO weeks. Stay posted for potential holiday rolls.

VERY IMPORTANT: New Years Day- PW Polar Bear Club has announced a new Papa Bear. It is our leagues very own JC. Come out January 1 show your support of the polar bears or join in the fun. Then head to Willies for some warm drinks and bowling!

See you on the lanes!

Sincerely,

- League Office

Dude: I've had a had a rough night, and I hate the fucking Eagles, man.

Gutterballs Weekly Vol. IV Issue 6

(no photos this week, so you get classic bowling hotties!)

- This weeks report is brought to you by guest league beat writer Mikey "the Cobra" Morgan.

It was a nice solid turn out of 15 bowlers

High Game

Dudes:With there being plenty of good bowling 7 games in total over the 200 mark 5 bowlers in the battle. Tony started with two strong scores but unfortunatly with Mikey in the 2nd game rolling a 222 he takes the prize.

Ladies:We had several good bowling efforts from the ladies this week however Stef takes this prize one more time with this years high ladies game of a 197. Amanda watch out she is gunning for your league record of 223.

Series Totals

Dudes:If you were paying attention the answer to last weeks guestion if JC could pull off another big series is NO. Tony starts out on pace to have a big week but with some consitant bowling Mikey rolls a 624.

Side Note: This is Mikey's first 600 series

Ladies:Jaime and Ashli roll a solid 394 but with Stef coming through rolls a 476 to top her own record for a Season high series.

Most Improved Bowler

With Bill coming back for the first time basing his improvement off last year its a 29 pin improvement. He shaked the early rust and rolled a 212 in the 3rd game. Tony and Mikey both improved 6 pins

Biggest Dip
With such a big week last week anything would have been seen as a dip but JC has the biggest dip with -6
I would have to say with all of that there was no real big dip considering we had 15 bowlers.

200 Games:
Mikey 222, 221
Tony 212, 200

Bill 212
Ess- 201

Gutterballs Weekly Issue 5 Vol 4

Where to begin? How about the speed bowling this week. League done by 9 pm. Or how about another ladies night. Great numbers posted from Jamie, Sarah, and Stef. But really this night belonged to one man. The Dude Abides.

JC found the grove on lanes 5 and 6 this week. Let's jump right to the numbers.

High Game

Dudes:

On a cold wintering night back in January 07, a legend of the game claimed his glory rolling a 265. That legend was Steve Schaefer. Well all records are made to be broken. This Thursday all conditions were right for JC. The lanes just dry enough, the speed was intense helping keep his focus, the beer was cold and the juke box was rocking. What does this all mean? JC went 6 straight XXXXXX, left an open 9, then found the grove XXXXX9. If I have that right? Anyways every thing he tossed went down, pins, beers and turkey shots. On his way to a NEW LEAGUE record 278. 22 pins short of perfection.

The league office is honored to have witnessed this feat.

Ladies:

Making sure JC wasn't hogging all the glory this week, Jaime Morgan showed off her skills. Tossing an impressive 170 in game two. But this weeks high lady game AGAIN goes to Sarah Suddendorf. Three years of spotty appearances, and occasional headlines, has left her wanting more. Year four Sarah's steady appearances and headlines she is making a name for herself as an early favorite for this year's queen of the lanes.

SIDE NOTE: Ahh the Queen of the lanes title. Year One Jesse Levin, Year two Amanda Williams, Year three Stef Emmer. All great champions of the lanes.

Series Totals

Dudes:

Well a 278 in game one really sets one up to win it all. But did JC stumble? Could he sustain his greatness? What do you think?... Stay tuned...

Ladies:
Jaime's game two was a high point for her on the night, Reigning Queen of the lanes Stef brought her (A) game tossing a 464. Not enough. As Sarah Suddendorf again makes her mark with a 469. now that is nice roll'n.

Dudes: The suspense is killing you isn't it? Sorry about that. But shame on you for doubting JC on this record setting night. You don't have to crush a record to break it. It only takes one. JC rolled a 278, 203, and then a 192 on his way to a 673 serirs. Sorry Steve, that knocks your 672 to second all-time on the list.

Most Improved Bowler

You break some records you better show up here. And that is just what JC did. +14 to 181. Jaime's 170 game helped bump her average up +7. Great rolling both of you.

Biggest Dip

Ugly, the new ball didn't help as Tony slid -3. Making sure he wasn't alone JJ what a nice guy slid -10.

200 Games:
JC – 278, 203
Jason 232
Mikey 221
Ess- 203

Best Line of the Night

Barber: “I got that shit on film!”

Turkey Hunters Club Update:

Thats all folks. Thanks for coming. Hope to see you next week.

WERE BACK! Weekly reminder Week 5

WERE BACK!!!!

After Hunting and Thanksgiving break the league should be well rested and ready to Roll!!!!

Bowling fun fact #6: Magic Number 110?

• Because if you bowl a 110 by the seventh frame you are able to bowl a 200. If you don't have a 110 by the seventh frame you will not bowl a 200
• If you have 110 by the 7th frame and strike out you will end up with an even 200.

* I don’t like math, Let’s just Roll!

Dude: This Chinaman who peed on my rug, I can't go give him a bill so what the fuck are you talking about?

Walter: What the fuck are you talking about?! This Chinaman is not the issue! I'm talking about drawing a line in the sand, Dude. Across this line you do not, uh--and also, Dude, Chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature, uh.. Asian-American. Please.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Gutterballs Weekly Vol. IV Issue 4

With all the hunters (deer hunters that is) we were down to 10 Turkey Hunters but they came with passion. Two we couldn't see, two with great sweaters, and one great Turkey; short a couple of feathers. Thanks Tony, at least we can get some laughs at the cost of your two finger tips. The lanes started off hot but went down a bit; either Willies cut backs on lane oil or consumption on our end. The Doe's came out firing, Ashmaster with a new career high 175 and Sarah with a Turkey in game 1. The Buck's as well, three 200+games and 4 Turkeys in game one. We had 7 turkey kills total plus one we found in the freezer from last week by Ess, our apologies from the league office for overlooking last week. Now for the recap.

Let's go to the numbers!
High Game

Dudes: Mikey Morgan sets the bar by taking cuz out by two in game one with a 219. Jr with a respectable 217 and trailing JC 204.

Ladies: Ashmaster in the house taking out her invisible partner Ess by one pin with a career high175. Watch out USBC

Series Totals

Dudes: JC just falling short of a 6 with a 597 followed by JJ and Michael 564 and 547 respectively.

Ladies: Ashmaster staying strong 443, with Sarah right behind 438.

Most Improved Bowler

JC with 16 followed by Sarah at 12.

Biggest Dip

Ess you should have sandbagged in the beginning (-13)

200 Games:
Mike Morgan- 219
JJ - 217
JC- 204,204 Sick dually duallies!

500 Series
JC- 597

Bowling Fun Fact #5: And I thought season 4 was old…
* In the 1930’s, British Anthropologist Sir Flinders Petrie became the first to discover evidence of a bowling-like game. He found ancient objects in a child’s grave in Egypt that were allegedly used for a primitive form of the game. The artifacts have been dated back to 3200 BC, effectively making bowling over 5,000 years old!

Gutterballs Weekly Vol. IV Issue 3

Oh yes it's ladies night

And the Lane's are right
Oh yes it's ladies night
Oh what a night (oh what a night)

Girls, y'all got one
A night that's special everywhere
From Willies to Harbor Hills
It's ladies night and girl
the feeling's good

Romantic Lady , bowling baby
Mmm sophisticated mama
Come on you rolling lady yeah
bowl with me tonight , mama ,yeah

If you hear any noise
It ain't the boys , it's ladies night , at Willies!

Thank you Kool and the Gang for that great summary of last night’s action!

Week 3 was just that. An unofficial record 6 ladies bowling last night at Willies. The competing was hot. Harking back to the days of year one with the great duals between Original Queen of the lanes Jessie Levin, Steely Keely Welton and Lora (on one leg) Didier. Oh the good ol’ days.

This group of ladies is making a name for themselves. With an original member Amanda Williams formally Yoho leading the way. Can she keep it up?

Lots of questions to be answered. Did Hoeps show up on time? Nope not at all. Could Ess keep his flaming hot hand going? Nope but did have a nice game. Who would own the Juke box? With JC playing house this week missing in action Ashmaster and JJ took over.

Enough of the side stories lets look at the numbers;

High Game:

Dude: WOW, close call for top game this week. Dave set the bar high early with a game one 198. But that didn’t deter others from taking their best shot. Ess fell short in game two rolling a 197 and JJ found the groove in game two as well but his 196 wasn’t enough. Nice work Dave.

Ladies: Huh after reading my week one post it appears we had 6 ladies in week one to. Must be the year of the ladies down at Willies. I like it.

As for top game with Stef at home Amanda wasn’t going to take the night off. She kept her game sharp tossing a 179.

Series Total:

•Dudes: Dave set the bar early but couldn’t keep the pace. As JJ kept the tunes and the pins rolling all night on his way to a 545.

•Ladies: Sarah Suddendorf found the groove on lanes 1 & 2 this week. Her 172 in game three fell short of Amanda for high game but it did help her achieve a 436 series. Always thinking big picture. Nice rolling

Most Improved Bowler

Don’t have to look far. Sarah’s hot hand bumped her average 9 pins! Impressive feat without hitting a single turkey. That is just consistent bowling.

Biggest Dip:

The higher you climb the harder the fall. Not to often a bowler posts a 197 game and still finds himself on the biggest dip list. But that is the case this week for matt Esselmann. I guess the pressure of having his name on the big board at willies got to him. This week Ess dropped 11 pins. But he at least had some company. Mikey also dipped 11.

200 Games:

NONE- Sad

500 (+) Series:

JJ 545

450 (+) Series Ladies:

None- Sad

Best Shot of the night:

Two to report this week! The great one returned Steve Schaefer made his season 4 debut and cleared a 3-6-7-9 in game one.

Not to be outdone team Williams cleaned up a couple of frames with Brads 7-5 and Amanda’s 5-10 splits. Nice work.

Not so Best Shot of the Night:

Mikey Morgan thinking the game is too easy decided he could roll with a towel. Not so much 0.

Best line of the night:

In response to the hip-hop tunes coming out of the box Brad Williams broke his silence with “ I feel like we should be roller skating”

Thanks everyone who made it- ON TIME! Very excited to report we rolled at 7:14 getting closer.

PROGRAMMING NOTE: Don’t forget next week is Thanksgiving league night. Last year was a great one, feel free to bring a dish, dress in thanksgiving wear (pilgrim, turkey sweater, whatever) and have fun. Always one of my favorite theme nights of the year.

Where's JJ's hand?

See you on the lanes!

Gutterballs Weekly Reminder 3

Was that frost on the ground this morning? Don’t worry about the cold plenty of hot action on the lanes!
Can Ess keep up this record setting pace? Will Jr. repeat his three turkey night? Can JC find his groove? Will Hoeps show up on time?

Only way to find out is to join us. Don’t forget tomorrow night PW Gutterballs takes over Willies for week 3.

The league office is looking into alternative starting lanes for late comers. Those who have a very limited window (i.e. kids) need to get going at 7:05. Please try to make it on time, sign in 6:45 balls in the air 7:05 SHARP.

You can RSVP or talk smack below under the comments tab.

IMPORTANT Programming note: Please send the league office any photos you would like to share for the league report. Thanks for your help!

Special events update: Start thinking of your Thanksgiving outfits just one week away from our next theme night!

Bowling Fun Fact #4: Who is the original Million dollar man?

* In 1964, bowling great Don Carter inked a million-dollar deal with Ebonite, making him the first bowler -- and perhaps the first athlete in any sport -- to hit the magic mark.

Gutterballs weekly Vol. IV Issue 2

Week 2 is in the books.

We had 12 bowlers a good solid turn out, but apparently Heop thinks bowling starts at 7:30.

We now know that Addy does not appreciate JC's affinity "hippie music"

Still waiting on league helpers to share photos.....(photos posted)

Also please feel free to comment, add your stories or quote/ shot of the night in the comments tab.

High Game:

Dude: Ess posts a very impressive 221 but, John John comes in shakes off the rust and throws a 241 in the 3 game to take this weeks high game.

Ladies: With Stef gone Amanda kept up her end of the deal and rolled a 148 to keep honors of high game.

Series Total:

·Dudes: With JC losing his "Touch", Ess has no problem fending of a slew of 500 series by posting a 595. However his hunting skills have dimished with 6 hunts but only one kill shot. There were an impressive 4 games in the 500+ range.

·Ladies: Once again Amanda steps in and takes the high series with a 416

Most Improved Bowler

Once again based on the benefit of last year’s season ending averages to establish a most improved John John jumps 25 pins but big props to Ess improving from last week by 14 pins. Boys you are setting the bar very high early.

Biggest Dip:

With the young stats not everyone benefits Brad improved through the night but not enough he ends with a dip of -12

200 Games:

JJ 241
Ess 221 204
Mikey 204

500 (+) Series:
Ess 595
JJ 555
Mikey 536
Addy 502

450 (+) Series Ladies:

Stef 416

Best Shot of the night:

I do believe Michelle had a pretty good spare pick up but none was recorded. We need to record some of these.

Not so Best Shot of the Night:

Ess had good bowling but his inability to finish of Turkeys will haunt him.

Best line/quote of the night:

None to report

Welcome:

No new Bowlers. - Sad let's spread the word!

Thanks everyone who made it.

See you on the lanes!

Week One OPENING NIGHT!

Oh, what a night.Late October back in '09.
What a very special time for me,
'Cause it was Opening night.

Oh, what a night. You know, I didn't even bowl that well,
But I was never gonna be the same.
What a lane. What a night.

Oh, I. I got a funny feeling when Turkey came
Into the room and I,
As I recall it ended much too soon.

Oh, what a night,
Hypnotizing, mesmerizing me.
Turkey was everything I dreamed she'd be.
Sweet surrender, what a night!

I felt a rush like a rolling ball of thunder
Spinnin' pins around and closing frames.
Oh, what a night!

Thank you Franki Valli for putting Opening night into song!

Thanks to everyone who made it out for opening night! 17 bowlers and a handful of spectators. For those who missed it, you missed plenty of fun, food, costumes, and BOWLING!
League announcement: The League has a name “PW Gutterballs” we are working on a website / blog. This is a work in progress.
http://www.pwgutterballs.org/ and http://pwgutterballs.blogspot.com/
Please be patient with us. The league office in not up to speed with this whole internet craze.
Now let’s jump right into the numbers…

High Game:
Dude: JC kick started his season off in style tossing a 191 and the first turkey of the season! Picking up right where he left off as last season’s high roller 175 and 18 kills.
Ladies: The competition tonight was fierce. 6 lady bowlers, this is an unofficial all-time high. Stef set the pace with a 164 game 1. This would not stand; this aggression would not stand man. Amanda left Stef in her rear view mirror in game 2 rolling a 182! Nice work ladies.

Series Total:
·Dudes: The turkey got the best of JC. He was unable to keep pace this week as he stumbled to a 472. Ess was this week’s steady hand. Tossing the only 500+ series with an impressive 512.
·Ladies: Making sure she received her weekly accolades Stef wasn’t the high game but she is no flash in the pan. Stef’s 164,140,168 earned her a 472 good for this weeks top series.

Most Improved Bowler
Based on last year’s season ending averages. Ess’s season 4 average after one week is a 12 pin improvement. This is impressive but it isn’t this weeks M.I.B. that my friends goes to the cold can of cerveza Amanda Williams. Amanda boosted her average by 17 pins.

Biggest Dip:
Same calculations based on last year’s average. Sorry Dave. This week you failed to meet your lofty expectations by a stellar 22 pins.
Side note: In an attempt to set himself up for M.I.B. next week possibly Brad Williams fired an 80 in game one. But by nights end he was only 1 pin off is average. Nice try Brad, I guess you just needed to knock the rust off.

200 Games:
NONE

500 (+) Series:
Ess 512

450 (+) Series Ladies:
Stef 472
Honorable Mention: Amanda 445

Best Shot of the night:
Just good bowling. 17 bowlers showed up. 7 hunters and 8 turkeys. That is good bowling!

Not so Best Shot of the Night:
Tony left plenty of 1 pin spares open throughout the night. NOT GOOD BOWLING.

Best line of the night:
None to report

Ashli Ligocki – The Ashmaster
